Movie Review- The Sixth Sense and the Karate Kid

The Sixth Sense (1999) - Unexpected Ending.

The Sixth Sense begins when Dr Malcolm Crowe trying to solve Vincent Grey's case as a psychologist.  He thought he could solve this case and keeps on doing his research on unstable mentally patient like Vincent Grey in the hospital.  Eventually, his hard-works paid off when he received an award for his researches.  During small celebration of his award with his wife, Anna Crowe,

little that they know, the case of Vincent Grey's case was still unsolved making Grey more stress with himself.

Out of nowhere, he appeared at the Crowe's residence and disturbed their celebration.  He was dare to shoot Dr Malcolm and even shooting himself as suicide. The story then continued with the next fall.

Here, Dr Malcolm seems to be busy watching over a small little boy who seems having mental illness.
After a short observation, he approaches him. That little boy named, Cole Sear.

After a small talk with Cole's mother, he try to approaches him in person. He trying his best to know him. But what Dr Malcolm see on his face was fear. So, he uses a game that is 'What's in your mind? If true, then step forward and if not, step backward' 

This scene getting more and more exciting when everything Dr Malcolm said was true. As Cole nearly to the sofa, his guess getting more failed which made Cole leaving the living room. 

The climax of this movie is when one day, it was in a birthday party. Cole was sitting alone by the stairs like usual because he didn't has so many friends. He saw a balloon, he tried to get it. All of sudden, the balloon flew away upstairs.
But, when he reached for the balloon, he heard some conversations. But there's no one there. Out of nowhere, Cole's classmates bullied him and locked him up in that door. Suddenly, there's horrifying voice behind that door, and Cole's voice while struggling to open up the door.

When Cole's mother opened up the door, Cole already unconscious. 

So, the next scene is at the hospital. Here's where Cole trying to tell him that he can see the dead people, and there's even a clue that making Dr Malcolm wondering. That is, "I can see dead people, that they didn't even know that they're already dead."

The story continues with Dr Malcolm's wife Anna having depression, he was there for their anniversary but his wife seems to ignores him. The next scene, he tried to talk with her and he saw depression pills in the bathroom. And he tried to open the door down to the cellar. But he couldn't open up the door knob but it seems to stuck.

This movie getting more interesting when Cole trying to cope with his fear by talking to the ghost, eventually he getting more and more friends. He even participated with his school's theater. 


That moment whenever there's any ghost trying to approach him in need of Cole's help. So, Cole has the guts to solved one case of a little girl who died vomiting. Turned out that she has been killed by her step-mother by food poisoning (shown in a video accidentally recorded by the little girl just before she died) . Cole feel relieved that he help that little girl. So he trying to Dr Malcolm's problem with his depressed wife.

"Talk to her" said Cole. So that night, Dr Malcolm trying to say but his wife was talking in the sleep saying, "Why do you have to leave me?' then she dropped his wedding ring.

Right from that moment, he realized that he already dead. He wore the same shirt on the day he has been shot by Vincent Grey that night. All this while, Cole seen Dr Malcolm as a dead people - who doesn't even know that they're already dead.

the Karate Kid (2010) - Never Say Never!

CAST of the Karate Kid:

the Karate Kid begins Dre is moving to China because of his mom, Sherry Parker changed job and she got one in China. He going to live in Beverly Hill Apartment but it seems like an old apartment. On his way to reach his house, he saw a peaceful yet quite havoc of evening scene with Chinese people no matters of age doing variety of exercises at the park. 

In a blink of eye, he already made a friend who seems had stayed in China quite a long time. Dre's new friend invite him to join to play at the park. Dre has this lazy habit of picking up his jacket instead of he always let it lay on the ground. 


The beginning start when he has been asked by his mom to search for maintenance man to turn on the heater in the shower. In this scene, where he found Mr Han. But Mr Han didn't seems a friendly person. 
Then, on his way back home, he saw the park nearer to Mr Han's workplace.

He feels curious about the park so he joined older men who were playing table tennis. He challenged them and he lose so many times. Dre then saw Mei Ying who were practicing her violin and Dre tried to approach her.
Mei Ying seems to be so interested with Dre's braided hair so she touched it. 

This scene showed the first meeting between Mei Ying and Dre Parker. Little that they know, there's someone who dislikes Dre which is Cheng. So, they're creating a scene and eventually leads to a fight. Dre was beaten up by him because Cheng has sort of martial art skills to fight.


The next day is Dre's first day at school and he got a bruises on his eye. So to cover it up, he put up on his mom's make up and the rest covered by his cap. Later, the bruises giving first bad impression to Dre's principle.

At school, he met Mei Ying again but he found out Cheng and his gang also in the same school. Cheng messed up his lunch. But Dre trying his best to be tolerant with Cheng. Day by day, he has this kind of fear as he would avoid Cheng and his gang. 

Then, he found out Mei Ying's usual place when lunch hour and he trying to motivate Mei Ying. She happy to has a friend like Dre. But after this short conversation, Mei Ying's teacher appeared but Dre already out from the hall.

There outside the hall he met Cheng and his gang, they threw away Dre's bag and kicked his books. Leaving Dre just like that, Dre knew he need to do something with this fear.

One weekend, while strolling around one of the Beijing's town he found out a poster about Karate so he's curious to learn it. He ran towards that poster showing the picture of Master Li. Later, he found out a beautiful place that everyone no matters of age, were practicing Karate. 

But he soon found out there's one hall where all the Black belt trainees were practicing Karate too but in aggressive way. 

The climax of this movie starts when Mr Han agreed to challenge Dre in Karate tournament. So in order to prepare Dre to be ready, it must start with a discipline. Picking up the jacket, boosting his stamine to maximum level and stay focus.




Day by day, his friendship with Mei Ying become closer.


 It makes Cheng became more jealous of Dre. Cheng trying everything to disturb Mei Ying and Dre. There's one day that Mei Ying nearly missed her performance and giving bad impression to Mei Ying's father.

Then, story continued with their friendship sort of drifting away. It makes Dre more determining to finish up his karate lesson with Mr Han. 

On the day of Dre's Karate tournament, his mom and Mei Ying was there to support him up. 


Dre started the tournament with a bit anxious but eventually he made himself to the final.



This part intrigues us out, because Cheng attacked him in a dirty way that is breaking his injured leg and kicked his abdomen. So, Dre been examined by the doctor and he said "You have bring honor to your family. You should not continue this tournament" 

But after all, Dre still in fear. So he asked Mr Han to help me in back in the tournament by medicated him with Chinese Traditional way. So he back on the scene.


With all guts Dre has and staying focus, Dre finally wins this tournament and defeat Cheng in an honor way until Cheng himself gave the tournament cup to Dre.
Both Dre and Mr Han learnt something from this - 
"We have to stand up and face the fear we had - never give up! "

Fourth Week: Guided Question
